We’re all huge fans of the British sitcom The IT Crowd. If you haven’t seen it and you’re a fan of British comedy, we guarantee you won’t be disappointed. It’s currently streaming on Netflix.
The show centers around the misadventures of Moss, Roy and Jen, who all work in the IT department of a large company. While a huge embellishment of what it’s really like in an IT department, there is a repeated line in the show, one that echoes through the offices of every IT department on a daily basis: Roy’s famous mantra, “Have you tried turning it off and on again?”
While Roy normally says it in a defeated, half-enthused-at-best tone, the reality is that it’s the easiest thing to do first whenever your computer is running slow, acting up, or is just buggy. Restarting clears out your computer’s memory, returns software to an original state, and refreshes your internet connection. Giving your system a kick about once a week can also prevent a lot of general issues.
